School Resource Officer Program
The El Mirage Police Department is a strong supporter of school based programs. With this in mind, the Police Department, in conjunction with Safe Schools grant provided by the Arizona Department of Education, has assigned a School Resource Officer (SRO) to the Dysart High School on a full time basis.

The El Mirage Police Department School Resource Officer practices the National Association of School Resource Officers (NASRO) philosophy of the School Resource Officer pyramid and utilize the following principles in the course of their duties:
Police Officer
The School Resource Officer is first and foremost a Full Authority Certified Peace Officer. The SRO responds to calls for service on the school campus as well as investigating criminal activity on school grounds.
Teacher
One requirement of the Safe Schools grant is the assigned SRO is required to teach a minimum of 90 hours of Law Related Education (LRE). LRE class topics are numerous and can range from Bullying Prevention, Sexual Harassment prevention, Internet Safety and many others.
Counselor
As well as being positive Role Models for today’s youth, the SRO is often asked by students and staff for advice and guidance about personal issues.
