El Mirage Cares  Community Forum On Suicide Prevention and Domestic Violence Awareness

[El Mirage, AZ October 2, 2018] –The City of El Mirage will host its second El Mirage Cares Community Forum.  The forum will be Suicide Prevention and Domestic Violence Awareness to be held on October 23, 2018, from 6:30 – 8:30 p.m. at the Dysart Community Center located at 14414 North El Mirage Road.  This vital community meeting will have separate sessions for adults and children to attend with presentations from experts on suicide prevention and domestic violence awareness.

Awareness and Prevention are of key importance:

•   Suicide is the 2nd leading cause of death for people ages 10-34

•   In Arizona, we lose a teenager to suicide every 5.5 days, and for every suicide death, it is estimated there are over 200 attempts

•   Every 3 days, someone dies as the result of domestic violence in our state

•   Approximately, 1 in 4 women and 1 in 7 men will experience domestic violence in their lifetime

•   Every 44 minutes in Arizona, one or more children witness domestic violence

El Mirage Police Chief Paul Marzocca will moderate the community forum.  Chief Marzocca stated, “Everyone can make a difference by becoming aware and knowing the signs so we can stop suicides and domestic violence.  We look forward to engaging our community and providing education and resources.”

There will be a Question & Answer session and staffed information tables after presentations.

Light refreshments will be provided.
